A delegation from Turkey’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources will soon visit Syria to evaluate the country’s electricity infrastructure, Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced, according to Reuters.

“The main energy issue in Syria is electricity. A formula will be developed to ensure its supply,” Bayraktar told reporters on December 24.

He also referenced remarks made last week by Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati about Lebanon’s challenges in providing electricity, indicating that “efforts may soon be undertaken to facilitate electricity supplies to Lebanon as well.”

Meanwhile, Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, said talks are planned to establish a maritime border delimitation agreement with Syria’s newly formed interim administration.

“We will finalize a maritime jurisdiction agreement with the Syrian administration. An emergency action plan is being developed covering aviation, railways, highways, and telecommunications services. We’re also working on reopening airports,” Uraloglu was quoted as saying by local media.

Reports of a potential maritime boundary agreement between Turkey and Syria’s interim government have reportedly raised concerns in Greece. Greek media highlighted that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis voiced his apprehensions regarding the matter to the European Union during a summit in Brussels last week.
