UK Finance Minister Backs Heathrow Airport Expansion

UK Finance Minister Rachel Reeves outlined plans to boost the country’s struggling economy, voicing her support for the long-awaited expansion of one of the world’s busiest airports.

In a major speech focused on economic growth delivered in Oxfordshire on Wednesday, Reeves emphasized the urgent need for a third runway at London’s Heathrow Airport.

Reeves argued that an additional runway at Heathrow is essential to attract investment, stimulate economic growth, and potentially create more than 100,000 new jobs.

Citing research conducted by consultancy firm Frontier Economics to support her case, Reeves stated that adding a third runway at Heathrow could boost the UK’s GDP by 0.43% by 2050.

Interestingly, much of this economic growth is expected to benefit regions outside London and southeast England. The move is seen as crucial for revitalizing Britain’s economy amid ongoing challenges.
